About Reflexology

Reflexology is an amazing and tremendously beneficial complementary therapy. An ancient method of healing with evidence of its practise in an Egyptian tomb, going back nearly 5000 years, It was brought to England in the 1960’s by Doreen Bayly, who learned the Ingham method in America from Eunice Ingham one of the pioneers of modern reflexology. The therapy has grown and grown in popularity, and is now used by a very great number of people worldwide.

It works on the theory that the whole body is mirrored in the feet, and by applying pressure to different areas of the feet, and using various techniques we can stimulate all the organs and functions of the body helping to normalize any imbalances. It also has an influence on the circulation, increasing the supply of oxygen and nutrients and helping to release toxins from the body. There are over 7,000 nerve endings in the feet it is believed that a transmission via the nervous system causes a reflex action that has an affect within the body.

Unlike massage which works from the outside of the body, reflexology works from the inside. It is wonderfully relaxing and calming, and a marvellous stress buster.

We all know that Great British Institution the M25. Fabulous when the traffic is all flowing freely, but when then there is a hold up, caused by an accident or road works what do we get? CHAOS! The flow of traffic slows right down or worse still grinds to a halt. The local towns suddenly become an escape route, as vehicles spill off the motorway. Sometimes the opposite flow is disrupted as people strain to see what’s going on, and so the pressure in that area continues to build.

Stress causes problems in our bodies in much the same way, and can be the underlying cause of all sorts of problems. We feel constantly under pressure and as a result our bodies and minds begin to feel the effect. Resulting in headaches or migraines, digestive problems, blood pressure, difficulty sleeping, and mentally it can lead to depression.

Reflexology can help to balance the body and aid the function of organs and glands, promoting the free flow of energy to help you relax, unwind and enjoy a healthy life.
